Jerome “Jerry” Clinton Campbell III, beloved husband, father, and “Dadah,” passed away peacefully on December 16, 2022, in Baton Rouge at the age of 78. He was born in Dallas, TX, and had lived in Baton Rouge for over 65 years. He was a 1963 graduate of Catholic High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from LSU. Jerry, a devout Roman Catholic, was a long time parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Baton Rouge. He served on the church’s Parish Council for a number of years, was Coordinator of the church’s Habitat for Humanity ministry, and was a member of St. Matthew’s Guild. He worked for The Advocate for 33 years and retired as Outside Advertising Sales Manager in 2011. Jerry had a lifelong love of history, model railroading, Donald Duck comic books, correcting grammatical errors, and movies with happy endings. He was a consummate handyman and was still working on projects around the house up until the last. But what Jerry loved most of all was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gayle; his sons Geoff (and his wife, Melissa), Scott, and Drew (and his wife Sherie); and his grandchildren, Alexandra, Connor, Sadie, and Marian. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerome Campbell, Jr., his mother, Marjorie, and grandparents Ila and Victor Green (the original “Dadah”). Jerry’s family is grateful for the wonderful care he received from Hospice of Baton Rouge at the Butterfly Wing and encourages donations to that organization. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 8:30 AM, with funeral mass at St. Thomas More afterward at 11:00 AM. Jerry never failed to tell people to “have fun” when they parted company. So, on his final journey, his family would like to say, “Have fun, Dadah!”
