"Surrounded by her children, she passed away peacefully Sunday evening, Aug. 21. She was 90. Jerry was born in Memphis, TN to Ray and Verna Walters on May 3, 1926. From the age of 5, she was raised a 'country girl' in Winnsboro, LA where her father farmed and raised award-winning Hereford cattle and her mother taught school. She is the first-born of seven. She and her closest-in-age sister, Jean helped raise the youngest two - twins Joann and Jackie - each taking one as their own; while her other sister, Janice, who became her dearest friend, made mischief as the 'middle child' of the bunch. She adored her sisters and they remained close throughout their lives. She came to Baton Rouge to attend LSU and resided there until her death. She loved life! If asked, "would you like to"¦?", she said, "YES!"; without even knowing what or where she would be going. She enjoyed her iPAD and reading romance novels. She had a passion for freezing leftovers - forever. She loved cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and many in the family have afghans crocheted for them by her. She drove (heaven help us!) up until a few months ago. If you saw a black Kia sedan, with a little white head barely above the steering wheel - with the assist of no less than three pillows (she was barely 5ft. tall), you best stay out of her way. She greatly, greatly enjoyed her family - nothing was more precious to her; and secret Saturday night 'girl' get-togethers with daughter, Rejean and nieces, Dona, Denise and Deanna. She delighted in sitting on daughter Renée's patio watching the birds and silly antics of squirrels at the feeders. She was much-loved and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing, loving and being loved by her. For 35 years, she will be remembered as "Ms. Fousse," the orthodontic technologist who 'braced' the teeth of many with Dr. J. Bateman. Then, as the manager of Bocage Condominium Homes, she walked back and forth from her unit to the office until just a few months ago. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; parents, Ray and Verna; two sisters, Janice Kent and Jean Williams; and baby brother James Robert and baby sister Joyce. She is survived by her daughters, Renée Kirtland and Rejean Tate; son Ronny Fousse and his wife Jackie; her twin sisters, Jackie Boyd and Joann Diebold and their husbands, Baker and Joe; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who were loved as her own. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East is handling the arrangements. Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 28 from 2-4pm. Services will follow at 4pm with Pastor Chris Andrews of Jubilee Pioneers officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Walter and Damon Kirtland; Jason, Troy and Kaleb Tate; Dustin Fousse, Alex Ironmonger and Chad Morin. The family requests that transport to her final resting place for burial at Port Hudson National Cemetery the following day be private. The family wishes to thank Hospice In His Care nurse Kathleen for her tender care in those final weeks. In lieu of flowers, it was her fondest wish that memorial donations be made to her beloved Jubilee Pioneers, c/o Chris Andrews, 18781 Old World Court, Baton Rouge, LA 70817.
