
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and retired educator, Jo-Ann Hardeman died on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, with her husband, King, by her side. She was 57. Jo-Ann was born Dec. 10, 1949, in New Orleans, and moved to Baton Rougein 1969. She was a kindergarten teacher's aide at St. Aloysius Catholic School for nearly 20 years. At the age of 45, she decided to begin her college career and graduated from LSU in 1999, with a degree in primary education. A year later, she received a master's degree from LSU. She taught kindergarten at St. Aloysius before retiring in 2004. Not being able to retire, she worked with the adult literacy program for the past year. Jo-Ann truly was an inspiration to everyone she met. She touched countless lives and shared her positive outlook, cheery disposition and easy laugh with so many. She found the best in everyone and everything. Our lives are certainly better for having known her and she will be missed. Jo-Ann is survived by her husband of 37 years, King; a son, Mark Hardeman of Carbondale, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Tim Welborn of Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Max and Ava Welborn; sister, Maryann Hulin; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Janet Burrows; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Duane Roussel; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her father, Joseph Burrows, and mother, Alexia Hanks Burrows. Memorial service will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.and will be followed by a Catholic Mass at 1 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jo-Ann Hardeman scholarship fund at St. Aloysius School, 2025 Stuart Ave., Baton Rouge, LA70808.
