

Joe Henry McCorkle, 93, formerly of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021, in Round Rock, TX. Joe was born in Edinburg, MS, on June 30, 1927, to the late Hayward McCorkle and Mattie Lee Ward McCorkle. He married Vera Mitchell on June 7, 1947, in Newton, MS, and loved and cared for her for 70+ years. He never lost his love for her even unto death. The twinkle in his eye was there the day he knew he was going home to his bride and loving Valentine. She preceded him in death in 2018, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Morel. Joe is survived by one daughter, Julie McCorkle Decker and husband, Douglas B. Decker, Jr.; grandchildren; Emelie Decker Konopka, April Decker Thurston, Matthew J. Decker, Bryan Morel, James Morel; and great-grandchildren; Caitlyn J. Konopka, Haley E. DeVries, Morgan DeVries, Ian Morel, Aria Morel and Chloe Morel. From Justina, who cared for Joe and loved him to the end, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Encompass Home Health Care and Encompass Hospice as well as Sundara Senior Living of Round Rock, TX. A special thanks to all their staff who cared for him, and brought that twinkle to his eyes even in his final hours. A special thanks to Kelli and Karen for their help and immense patience through the end of 2020 and into the new and challenging 2021. May God bless you and bring you all a special portion of grace and miracles during these trying times. To Steve Little, Joe and Vera’s friend and neighbor in LA, a special thank you for the calls that made him smile and kept him looking forward to the weekends.
