John Francis Ancona

Retired co-owner of Ancona's Grocery, he died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge. He was 78 and a native and resident of Baton Rouge. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3298. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Thursday, Oct. 1, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Paul A. McDuffie, celebrant. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. John is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Luke and Lola Macaluso Ancona, Roy and Angel Guarisco Ancona, and Frank and Madeline Prestigiacomo Ancona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Vincent and Katherine Levera Ancona; sisters, Mary James, Katherine "Katie" Dispenza and Lena Ancona; and brothers, Joe, Vince and Anthony "Buck" Ancona, who were all of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Charles Wesley Ancona, Feron Cedatol, Robert Ancona, V.J. Despenza, Gregg Ancona and T.J. Reiprecht. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Ancona, Roy Ancona Jr., David Ancona and Joey Ancona.
