On Monday September 27th, John H. “Bubba” Fontenot Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 61. Born Oct 3, 1959 in Baton Rouge to John Fontenot, Sr & Janice Fife. When his big sister Paula was unable to pronounce his name, he became “Bubba” and that stuck for a lifetime. Bubba’s stature and his genuine love for his brothers and sisters would ultimately deem him the protector of the family. Though raised in Baton Rouge, he spent part of his childhood in Las Vegas but would eventually settle back home in Louisiana where hunting and fishing offered him lifelong enjoyment and his staple black cowboy hat and boots blended in. Bubba attended Woodlawn High School where he made lifelong friends. He made a career in carpentry where his gifts and talents were admired by all who had the privilege of watching or working with him. There was no job he would turn down for family. Bubba was selfless with friends and family who needed anything running, repaired or built. He took pride in his work which can be seen in the State Capital building and BRECS Exhibition Center among many other homes and buildings.
His talent wasn’t limited to tools alone. He was considered the artist of the family. He spent his free time at a large drafting table creating the most beautiful art simply by pencil or ink pen. His love, vision and passion for art now live on through his two beautiful & talented children.
He is survived by his children, Stevie and Jonathan Fontenot, their mother, Kristie Kimball and grandson, Mason Fontenot. He is also survived by his mother, Janice Fife; siblings: Paula, Bret, Andria and Ashly Fontenot, Jennifer Foster and Holly Stevens. He is preceded In death by grandparents Enos And Elaine Fife, Emery and Mable Fontenot and his father, John Fontenot.
A gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at Greenoaks Memorial Park. 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70815
