

John (Jan) Szklarski, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the age of 62. Native of Poland, Jan immigrated to USA at the age of 27 where he settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and worked with dedication for Associated Grocers Inc. for 35 years while being actively involved in the company's Workers Union. A loyal US citizen and patriotic Pole, Jan leaves behind a legacy of helping many Poles in the community, involvement in the Polish American Society of Louisiana, and annual tradition of setting up and managing Polish displays at the International Heritage Festivals. A dedicated family man, John is also remembered in the neighborhood as a friendly and witty person, and a helpful man of many skills and talents. Left to treasure John's memory is Kristina, his wife of 37 years; their only daughter, Maggie Mitchel with her husband David; and two grandchildren, Madeline and Noah. Jan is also survived in Poland by his two brothers, Andrzej Szklarski and Stanislaw Szklarski; and his sister, Maryla Chorazyczewska. Funeral services will be held at St. George Catholic Church (7808 St. George Dr., Baton Rouge) Saturday, May 9th with a visitation from 9:30 am until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, officiated by Fr. Michael Schatzle. Entombment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
