John Ware Lewis

John Ware Lewis went to be with his Lord and Savior on 12/11/2025. He was born in Amite, Louisiana on November 7th, 1933. He grew up in Amite and graduated from Amite High School. John graduated from LSU in received a B. S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. John started his professional career as an engineer with DOW Chemical Company in Freeport TX. After a few years he moved to DOW Badische Company also in Freeport, TX and later he was transferred to Dow Chemical in Plaquemine, Louisiana where he retired.

John was a lifelong LSU football fan. He and his wife Rosemary had season tickets for many years and traveled to numerous away games. They were affectionately called the traveling tigers by family members. Also, they traveled all over the world including visiting Egypt for the Y2K New Year. Both he and Rosemary loved to play tennis as well as follow all the Grand Slam Tournaments in Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open. He was an excellent Pianist and led his family in a Christmas Sing – along every Christmas Eve for many years.

Later John and Rosemary built a home in Oscar Louisiana. He joined the Kiwanis Club of New Roads. He became a member of the New Roads Methodist Church and was member of the choir.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary Reynolds Lewis, his son Johnny T. Lewis, his brother Elton “Bo” Lewis, his sister Sara Ellen Dunne, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded by his daughter Laure Lee Lewis, his parents Elton Lewis & Vi Lewis, and his brother William “Bill” Lewis.

In lieu of flowers Donations can be made to the New Roads Methodist Church or to Pointe Coupee Hospice.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am until the funeral service which begins at 12:00 pm and will be held at the New Roads Methodist Church located at 206 Pennsylvania St. New Roads, LA. Interment will follow at approximately 2 pm at Green Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, LA at 9595 Florida Blvd.

Pallbearers will be Billy Suydam, Tom Lebeau, Chad Reynolds, Patrick Reynolds, Andrew Reynolds, and Kevin Alonzo.
