

John Hollis Parrish, 92, passed away April 4th, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Marie Purcell Parrish; his brothers and sisters, Hazel Moss, Evelyn Fowler, and Jimmy Parrish; his sons, Al, Robert, and Tim; his grandsons, Tommy (and wife, Megan), Brad, and Matt; his great grandchildren, Elise and Ian; and his stepchildren, Don, Randy and Bill Purcell, and Susan Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Betsy Parrish, and his beloved first wife, Rachel Upton Parrish. John Parrish was born on November 7th, 1921, on a farm outside Soso, Mississippi. He served on the U.S.S. Corson in the Pacific during World War II and was aboard one of three ships that comprised the first fleet to enter Nagasaki Bay after the dropping of the second atomic bomb. He retired from BASF Wyandotte Chemicals in Geismar, Louisiana, after being an operator there for thirty-four years. He was a great father and storyteller, a house builder, Ole Miss fan, devout Christian, and member of Christ Presbyterian Church (Pastor Galen Sorey).
Visitation hours will be at Green Oaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, on Sunday the 6th from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday the 7th from 10 a.m. until 12:00 noon, followed by a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Lupus.org. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Ollie Steele Burden.
