John Braudis Simmons was born in Kentwood, LA, on January 9, 1939, to Joe P. and Totsie Lambert Simmons. At age 84, John passed away on November, 4, 2023, in Baton Rouge. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and had received the Air Force Commendation Medal of Meritorious Service. John was an avid LSU fan, passionate about cars and restoring classic cars, and he loved dogs but had a particular fondness for Boxers. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Viola Travis Simmons; daughters, Sandra Simmons Dunaway (Wes) and Beverly Simmons Goolsby (Roger); son, Josh Knezevich (Amy); granddaughters, Kelly Young (Brandon), Kacee Sutphin (Tim), Meredith Zapata (Jose), Myranda Kapner (Mark), Madeleine McNair (Matt), Arionna Knezevich, and Alyssa Knezevich; grandson, Eli Knezevich; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joe Grady Simmons, Edna Ruth Smith, Carl Casey Simmons, and Jimmy Devon Simmons. A visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 9 am until service at 11, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (11000 Florida Blvd), conducted by Anthony Rice.
