
A retired farmer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at 6:45 p.m. of natural causes at his home. He was 105 and a native of Guines, Havana, Cuba. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Friday, Aug. 3, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until departure at 9:30 a.m. Graveside service at St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Michael Schatzle. Survived by his wife of 73 years, Carmen Rodriguez Pino; daughter and son-in-law, Maria Carmen and Carlos Vargas; son and daughter-in-law, Serafin and Adelfa Pino; four grandchildren, Maria Sanchez and husband Fidel Sanchez, and Sunilda Blackwell and husband Richard Blackwell, all of Denham Springs, José M. Pino of Baton Rouge and Carlos Vargas and wife Vicki Vargas of Gonzales; and 16 great-grandchildren, Madelie and husband Devereaux, Michael and wife Tabitha, Matthew, Magdalene, Karley, Brandon, Shawn, Travis, Kaleigh, Drake, Jaron, Kaidyn, Megan, Maritza, Joshua and Brittney. Preceded in death by his parents, José and Regla Pino. Pallbearers will be Michael J. Sanchez, Carlos Vargas, Jose M. Pino, Joshua Blackwell, Brandon Vargas, Devereaux Sellers II. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew J. Sanchez, Shawn Vargas, Richard Blackwell and Fidel Sanchez. He enjoyed gardening. "Chicken" had a green thumb for planting. He had a loving, friendly heart to everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
