Joseph "Joe" Richard Corsentino passed away at Ollie Steele Burden nursing home on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born on November 9, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, having attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of Catholic High School. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rita Alello Corsentino; daughters, Sheila (Dave) Blount; Darlene (Bob) Cunningham; Michelle Laporte; also survived by 7 grandchildren; Melody Smyser (Bobby), Megan Blount, Lindsay Dean (Bryan), Brian Irvin (Amanda), David Irvin (Lizzy), Nick Laporte, Marissa Laporte and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert Corsentino and sister Lucille Lato. He was preceded in death by his parents: Anthony "Tony" Corsentino and Lucy Wilkinson, sisters; Marie and Anna Mae, and brother; Sam Corsentino. Joe was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy since 1953. He served in various capacities on the OLOM School Board, Usher Society, Parish Council, Long Range Planning Committee, Building Committee, Parish Fair Chairman and Co-Chairman, as the $10,000 raffle founder and chairman, founder of Veteran's Day Masses, member of Knights of Columbus and a member of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. In service to his country, he was in the Marine Corps from (1949-1952). During that time he served in the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. He served the Marine Corps League since 1990; as the Commandant from 1998-1999, and as the Marine of the Year in 1998. Joe was an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 29 years. He was a longtime Captain of Manresa Group #5 and attended 50 retreats over the years. He was a member and former officer of the Order of Alhambra. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Gerald Miletello and his staff for their care over the last 5 years, and a special thanks to Lynn Griggs, Mary Ann Brown, Rick and Mary Lynn Huber, Sid and Mary Elizabeth Bowden, Hal and Tyré Dupuy, and Michael Moore. Memorial donations can be made in Joe's name to Our Lady of Mercy Church, to Catholic High School, or to a charity of your choice. Visitation will be from 9-10 Thursday morning, October 26, at OLOM Church followed by services at 10, conducted by Rev. Cleo Milano. Burial will take place at Greenoaks Mausoleum.
