Joseph Calvin Rogillio
August 18, 1918 – July 13, 2017
Joseph Calvin (Jack) Rogillio passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017. He left behind a huge loving family who were completely devoted to him and his wife of 76 years, Felicie Langlois (Happy) Rogillio. Jack, born in 1918, would have celebrated his 99th birthday on August 18th. Jack was an American hero, as were all the soldiers from the ‘Greatest Generation’. He did heroic things and lived a heroic life. He served in WWII as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, 506th PIR (The Screaming Eagles). He parachuted into occupied France on D-Day and fought in the hedgerows of Normandy. He parachuted into Holland and fought his way up the ‘Hells Highway’ in Operation Market-Garden. He was one of the ‘Battling Bastards of Bastogne’, surrounded by the Germans at Bastogne on Christmas 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge. He ended the war at Berchtesgaden, drinking liberated Nazi booze, in Hitler’s Eagles’ Nest. He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and several other commendations. He was a good man who took care of his family and did the best possible for everyone he knew. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rachael and Jacquelyn Rogillio; one son, Joe Rogillio, Jr. and wife Sandy Wendt Rogillio; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday July 21, 2017, from 10:00AM until the time of funeral service at 12:00PM. Burial will follow at 2:30PM at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mount Pleasant Rd., Zachary, LA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Shriners Hospital, www.shrinershospitals.org/Donate. We miss him deeply and will always be thankful for his adventurous spirit, his kindness, his stories, and especially for the great life he gave his family.

Brother noble Jack was a man easy to like, to talk to, and to be friendly with. He was a great cook and loved to talk when you could get him to talk. He will be missed but thought of very often. I pray the great Comforter will send the Holy Spirit to comfort his lovely family and friends. God bless us all.

My sincere sympathy and empathy go out to the entire Rogillio Family, most especially to my sis-of-heart, Jackie. I have enjoyed the friendship and love from Jackie and the family for over 20 years and love them all. They are a remarkable family, filled with love, friendship and compassion. We have all lost a most unique man who will leave footprints on all of our hearts forever. Cherish the life of this man for there was no one quite like him. You all remain in my thoughts and prayers as you have been in the hard days you have endured. Love to all.
