

Joseph Dolan “Poppie” Sonnier Sr., a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Lafayette, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was a retired co-owner of Sonnier and Honore Paint Contractors. Poppie was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed dearly by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Barbara “Bobbie” Sonnier; two daughters, Tuesday Sonnier Mills (Craig) and Hope Sonnier Juge (Stephen); son, Joseph Dolan “Jaydee” Sonnier Jr. (Felicia); two sisters, Marilyn DeCuir and Leatrice Melancon; aunt, Sadie LeBlanc; grandchildren, Rebecca Sonnier Watkins (Eddie), LaToi Brown, Sarah Sonnier, Rachael Mills, Monique Mills, Jada Juge, Shane Sonnier, and Jacob Juge; great grandchildren, MaKayla Shelvin and Ta’Riel Mullins; and numerous in laws, nieces and nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton “Keno” and Mildred Sonnier; brother, Clifton “Bozo” Sonnier Jr.; great grandchild, Tari’ Mullins; and daughter in law, Blanche Little Sonnier. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 10am, with a recital of the rosary at noon, until Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Joseph’s Hospice, The Carpenter House or to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital in Joseph’s memory.
