Joyce DeCuir Cook peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Baton Rouge General Hospital. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was the last surviving child of Gussie M. and Mark Anthony DeCuir, Sr. She loved her family more than anything worldly and had a tremendous faith in God and devotion to our Blessed Mother. Joyce was 93 years old. She was a 1950 graduate of McKinley High School and attended Spaulding Business College. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Rosary Club and The Tuesday Evening Rosary Group. She was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. She was a homemaker. Visiting at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, from 9 a.m. Tuesday January 7, until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Trey Nelson officiating. Recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. She is survived by her loving sons, Bertell A. Cook, Jr, and wife Patricia, John A. Cook and wife Regina, and Charles E. Cook; grandsons, Mark Cook, and Justin “Andy” Day and wife Georgia; great grandchildren, Jake and Collins Day; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husband of 48 years, Bertell A. Cook, Sr; her parents, Mark Anthony, Sr. and Gussie M. DeCuir; two brothers, Mark Anthony DeCuir, Jr., and Wilbert Warren DeCuir, Sr.; six sisters, Gloria Medley, Velma Lamotte, Rita Flotte, Enola Medley, Dolores D. Darensbourg, and Joan V. Cook; brothers-in-law, Charles Leo Cook, and Thomas B. Darensbourg, Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Sybil DeCuir, and Eunice DeCuir. Pallbearers will be Charles E. Cook, Mark A. Cook, Wilbert W. DeCuir, Jr., Eric L. Roquemore, Willie J. Moore, Jr., and Ian J. DeCuir. Honorary pallbearers are Melvin A. Cook, Jr., Lyndon D. Darensbourg, Justin “Andy” Day, Gaston J. DeCuir, Ivan J. DeCuir, Martin Juan Magee, Craig Mills, and Norman S. Schwamberg.
