

Joyce Lorraine Moffett Verdun died on her eighty-third birthday November 25, 2011 after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born November 25, 1928 in Jefferson Parish. She spent most of her life in the Baton Rouge area. Ms. Verdun was an employee of Wilson’s Jeweler’s for many years until her retirement. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy class of 1948. She is preceded in death by her husband Valcour Paul Verdun, mother, Olga Lochmann, father Harold Lochmann, two grandsons, Derek Louque and Ryan Scott Zuelke, and step son Terry Verdun. She is survived by her five children: Lynn Duhon Brown, Geri Zuelke, Audrey James Duhon, Jr., Renee Louque, and Georgie Duhon Longman; step son Warren Verdun; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for over 30 years. She enjoyed her last few years with the Lake Sherwood Village Retirement Center family, playing poker with the girls, painting and re-learning the French language. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff of Lake Sherwood Village, the nurses at Feliciana Hospice and Home Health, long time care givers through the Council On Aging, Lorraine and Tamara. Also a special thanks to Valena Gordon for the services she gave to Ms. Joyce during her last months. A special thanks to Dr. Michael McCarthy, Dr. George Say and Dr. Venkat Banda and his staff who cared for her like family during her many hospital stays at the Baton Rouge General. Please join the family for visitation at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 9:15am until a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Gerry Martin at 11am. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association of Louisiana.
