
Julie Carpenter Solar died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, after a valiant battle with cancer. Daughter of the late Jessie "Doc" and Sue Carpenter, she was born Nov. 20, 1948, near Bayou Chicot. A retired schoolteacher, Julie received her bachelor's degree in 1970 from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe and her master's degree in 1974 from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. During her career as a dedicated educator, Julie served as a high school English teacher in Lafayette and East Baton Rouge parishes and on the collegiate level at Southeastern and Baton Rouge Community College. Julie was a loving mother to her son, Brett Thomas Solar, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2000. Julie was also a devoted sister, niece, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Roger and Janie Carpenter, Ricky and Diana Carpenter, Robin and Cathy Carpenter and Debbie Daniels; as well as nine nieces and nephews, three great-nieces, two great-nephews and numerous cousins. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Sept. 23, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Mausoleum, next to her son Brett. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that gifts be made to St. Joseph's Hospice in her name.
