Karen Honoré Cullins, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family on the evening of August 19, 2026. Karen was born on September 19, 1960, in Baton Rouge to Henry Harvey Honoré, Sr. and Betty Rozier Honoré.
Karen was a member of the Class of 1978 at St. Joseph’s Academy. She received her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in 1982. Karen served as a Louisiana State Senate Desk Clerk during regular and special legislative sessions for more than 25 years. In addition, Karen dutifully assisted her mother in managing and maintaining several rental properties in Old South Baton Rouge, which provided housing for the elderly and indigent. For nearly 40 years Karen and her mother worked tirelessly to make sure their tenants were treated with dignity and had a respectable place to call home. Following her mother’s death, Karen assumed full responsibility for managing and maintaining the properties and meeting the needs of the tenants.
Karen, or “KK” as she was affectionately known by both family and friends, was devoted to her family. She loved to decorate her home for the holidays and host the Honoré family gatherings and loved to prepare her delicious pound cake and other tasty desserts. Karen was devoted to her Catholic faith and shared that devotion with her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Karen will forever be remembered for her warm, beautiful smile and infectious laugh. Karen lived life with joy and freely shared that joy with others. Even during cancer treatments and into her final days, Karen maintained an unfaltering positive attitude, welcoming family and friends into her home to laugh, pray, and reminisce about their good times together.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Kevan Cullins, her four children Kacie Owens (Jonathan), Kevan Michael, Jr. (Sarah), Karson, and Kason and her five adoring grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Beau, and Wesley Owens, and Keller and Walton Cullins, all of whom she deeply cherished and treasured.
Karen is also survived by her six siblings, Geretta (Rhaoul) Guillaume, H. Harvey (Adrienne) Honoré, Jr., Dexter (Michelle) Honoré, Brent (Rhonda) Honoré, Michelle (Donovan) Hicks, and Dwayne (Kathy) Honoré, all of Baton Rouge; her sister-in-law Leah Cullins, and brother-in-law Med D. Cullins, Jr., both of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 Saint George Dr., Baton Rouge, LA, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with Rosary at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at the St. George Kleinpeter Activity Center immediately following the services. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North Street, Baton Rouge, LA, at 3:00 p.m.
