

Katherine Watts died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family, caregivers and her beautiful textile art work. She was ninety six years old. With degrees from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette and LSU , she taught Clothing and Textile Design at LSU. Her life long love of textiles led her to the promotion of quilts as an art form. She was a co-owner of Fiber Five, a quilting and weaving shop; participated in local and national art quilt and needlework groups and exhibitions; and was instrumental in passing fiber arts on to another generation. She is survived by daughters Katy Prescott and husband Billy, Corinne Watts; grandsons and wives Sam Prescott and Susanne, Chris Prescott and Kelley; great grandchildren Janice, Samuel , Grace and Lillie Prescott; daughter -in-law Gayle Watts Jordan; sister Lemoine Reedstrum and sister-in-law Kathlyn Wilbanks. Preceded in death by her husband Burl Watts, son Al Watts, mother and father Kate and Harvey Wilbanks and brothers Dan and Sam Wilbanks. Pallbearers are Billy Prescott, Gregg Wilbanks, Gary Wilbanks, Sam Prescott, Chris Prescott and Samuel Prescott. the family will be forever great full for the loving care and kindness given to her by her caregivers, Ethel Mae Collins, Breinda Rushing, Julia Fisher, Audrey Smith, Mary Cornelius, Channa Courtney and the fabulous staff at Clarity Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Katherine's name to the LSU Foundation for the benefit of LSU Textile and Costume Museum, 3838 West Lakeshore Dr, Baton Rouge LA 70808. Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 4:00pm until 6:00pm and Wednesday 11:00 until service at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
