
A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at her home. She was 87 and a native of Franklinton. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy D. Duerr, of Baton Rouge; son, Richard Stephen Doughty and wife Leila, of Gallatin, Tenn.; and sister, LeRee Bateman, of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Rachel Susanna Doughty, Richard Andrew Doughty and wife Elizabeth, Mary Catherine Doughty, and John Stephen Duerr and wife Dawn; and great-grandchild, Anne Reeves Doughty. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Doughty; parents, Milton "Mit" Bateman and Mary Elizabeth Simmons Bateman; sister, Emily Bateman Wadsworth; and two brothers, Myford L. Bateman and James J. Bateman. Pallbearers will be Stephen Duerr, Andrew Doughty, Todd Bateman, Wade Bateman, Patrick Bateman and John H. Wadsworth. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Bateman, Paul Bateman, James Wadsworth and Richard Duerr. The family extends very special thanks to Esther Thomas for the devotion, time and care she gave to Kay during the past few months. The family also expresses their thanks to Dr. Derrick Spell, Laura Denicola and all of the staff of Dr. Spell's office for their care and attention during Kay's illness. Appreciation is also extended to the staff of Clarity Hospice for their assistance and compassion during the past few weeks. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, March 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, March 11, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Milford Walters. Entombment in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, 4950 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809-9971.
