Kathryn Marie Godwin Rabalais

Kathryn Marie Godwin Rabalais was born March 15, 1926, in Baton Rouge, LA and died of natural causes on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the age of 93. Kathryn grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1944. She went on to graduate from Cosmetology school and worked as a beautician and later retired from East Baton Rouge Parish School Board as an excellent bus driver. Kathryn was joined in Holy Matrimony to Wilmen John "Chuck" Rabalais on January 31, 1942. They remained married for 69 years until his passing on May 5, 2012. Kathryn enjoyed parenting her four children and was diligent in loving and teaching kindness and life skills throughout her life. She is leaving behind children that loved and respected her and because of her, remain a close loving family to this day. She always had an open heart for those in need. Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Rabalais Day and husband, John, Brenda Rabalais Breland Wright and husband, Kirk and Robinell Rabalais Brasseaux Hedfelt and husband, Fred; her son, John W. "Dut" Rabalais, Jr. and fiancé, Renee Stevenson; three grandchildren, Jason Day, Alana Breland, and Amber Brasseaux; and four great-grandchildren, Dewayne Johnson, Sunny and Daisy Day, and Elisah Irvin. Kathryn is preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Mae Godwin; her father, Hubert Godwin; and two brothers, Earl and Robert Godwin. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Sunday, November 17, 2019, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and will resume at Greenoaks on Monday, November 18, 2019, from 10:00am until the time of funeral services at 12:00PM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathryn’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Grace Health and Rehab in Slaughter, LA and Hospice of Baton Rouge for doing a wonderful job in taking care of her needs. She will be deeply missed.
