A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Atlanta, she died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007. Visiting at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd., Thursday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. until religious service at noon, conducted by Gerrit S. Dawson, pastor, and Barry Phillips. Survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert "Nick" Nicholas Garner Sr.; daughter, Sally Garner McConnell and husband Richard, of Baton Rouge; two sons, Robert Nicholas Garner Jr. and wife Mary, of Bossier City and John Burton Garner, of Baton Rouge; sister, Dorothy Thompson Padgett, of Atlanta; brother, Joseph Alston Thompson Jr., of Atlanta; and grandchild, Garett Wesley Garner. Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alston Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Princeton Bardwell, Barry Phillips and Robyn Tyler. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She loved life and was a loving wife and mother who loved her dogs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Foundation or Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
