

“That reminds me…” are three famous words of Papa Ken, and a story or joke was always quick to follow. He passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at the age of 80. He was a retired captain of the US Air Force. He graduated from LSU in 1955 with a B.S. degree in agronomy and again in 1959 with a M.S. degree in agronomy. In 1969, he graduated from Mississippi State with a Ph.D. in agronomy with a minor in genetics. He was one of the founding members and a deacon/trustee of University Baptist Church. He retired as a vice-chancellor for research of the Ag Center and director of the Experiment Station at LSU. Dr. Tipton was recognized in the Hall of Honor of the cadets of the Old War Skule. He was a member of the Tiger Athletic Foundation, the LSU Alumni Association and many other professional societies. Visitation will be held at University Baptist Church on Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 5 PM until 7 PM and will resume on Friday, August 30, 2013, from 10 AM until the service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Adds Tipton; son, Kenneth Tipton, Jr. and wife, Patricia Horton Tipton; daughter, Nancy Lynn Tipton O’Neal and husband, Jeffrey Mark O’Neal; four grandchildren, Michael Tipton, Kendyl Tipton, Rebecca O’Neal Gorham and husband, Maxwell Gorham and David O’Neal; sister, Betty Smith; sisters in law, Phyllis Tipton and Kathryn Dureau; brother in law, Craymon Myers; numerous nieces nephews and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha Pearl Davis and Rev. Roscoe Roy Tipton; brothers, Ed Tipton and Richard Tipton; and sisters, Bernice Deerey, Mary Hartmann, and Barbara Myers.
