

Lap Tu Pham, aged 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Clare Manor, Baton Rouge, Louisiana to join his beloved wife in the afterlife. Lap was born on March 22, 1931 in Nam Dinh province of Hanoi, Vietnam. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Quang Dinh Pham.
Lap studied abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris and briefly worked at the BBC in London during his twenties. Later, he began his career as an instructor of foreign languages in Saigon, Vietnam where he met his wife, Sam, teaching courses in English as a second language. Soon thereafter, he obtained a position as ambassador of foreign relations for one of the most prestigious banks in Vietnam prior to migrating his family to the United States in 1975.
After settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he continued his career in the banking industry and worked at Hancock Bank until his retirement at the age of 65. His hobbies included keeping current with world news, reading books in multiple languages (Vietnamese, French, and English), traveling, creative writing, watching tennis, and listening to music.
Lap is survived by his son, Luan Pham; daughters, Tuyet-Suong Pham-Teh and Tuyet-Hang Pham-Schmidt; granddaughters, Stephanie Pham, Ashley Pham, Natalie Pham, Tiffany Pham, and Brigitte Teh.
Schedule of events will include the following:
• Wednesday, January 24th and Thursday, January 25th – The Viewing will be held between 6:00 – 7:30 PM and Prayer session will be held between 7:30 – 9:00 PM at Greenoaks Memorial Park located on 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815
• Friday, January 26th at 7:30 PM - Prayer and mass on behalf of the Pham family will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Thanh Le Van Phung Catholic Church located at 2305 Choctaw Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70805
• Funeral services for Saturday, January 27th – The Viewing will be held between 9:00 – 10:00 AM and Mass service will begin at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Thanh Le Van Phung Catholic Church located at 2305 Choctaw Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70805. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park located on 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
