Lawrence B. LeMay, age 71, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away suddenly on June 16, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 28, 1951, the son of the late Jack and Charlotte LeMay. Larry is survived by his brother, Doug LeMay, sister Caroline (Rodney) Salvati, niece Lauren (Jim) Newell and nephew Scott (Jodie) Salvati. Larry was a great uncle to three great-nieces (Carissa, Keira and Allison) and three great-nephews (Owen, Dominic and Eric). Although Larry doesn’t leave any other immediate blood relatives, he leaves behind many dear friends who became his “family.” He was as devoted to them as they were to him. Larry enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, underwater hockey, racquetball, and rollerblading. He was a member of the USA Championship Underwater Hockey Team. Larry had an extraordinary thirst for knowledge and was fascinated by all subject matters. But his passion was anything and everything involving scuba diving. Larry began his diving career while attending Rice University, in Houston, Texas from which he graduated in 1973 with a triple major in political science, psychology and behavioral science. Larry was certified as a scuba diver in 1970 and later became an instructor with the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). He taught scuba at all levels. He served as Director of many NAUI Instructor Training Courses and staffed many more. Larry served on many NAUI committees commissioned by NAUI Headquarters and the NAUI Board of Directors. Larry received the NAUI Outstanding Service Award in 1987. After graduation from Rice University Larry worked as manager of Kenlee’s West Dive Store in Houston. In 1989 Larry left Kenlee’s West to work in Information Management at S & B Engineers & Constructors, Ltd. He moved to Baton Rouge in March of 1991 to start an Information Management department at S & B’s affiliated company, Process Services, Inc. (PSI) which later became Ford, Bacon & Davis, LLC (FB&D). At FB&D, Larry progressed to work in planning, scheduling, safety studies, and database tool development supporting engineering and construction projects for the refining, polymer and petrochemical industries. Larry was a member of the Project Management Institute and a certified Project Management Professional. He was very active in the Baton Rouge Chapter serving in leadership positions. Larry retired from FB&D in 2017. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: NAUI.org, WRKF.org (NPR news affiliate), any food pantry of your choice or the East Baton Rouge Parish Library at: https://www.ebrpl.com/popl/popl.html.
