
"Died at 1:03 PM, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at St. James Place in Baton Rouge. He was 90 years old, and a native of Baton Rouge. He was the Edward McLaughlin Professor of Engineering in the College of Engineering at LSU, and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. Visiting hours at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, from 10 AM until service at 12 PM, on Monday, October 10, 2016. Burial at the Jewish Cemetery on North Street conducted by Rabbi Jordan Goldson. Survived by one son, Lawrence Alcus (Chip) Mann and his wife, Diana; one daughter, Nancy Lee Mann; two grandchildren, Amelia Beverly Mann Halstead and her husband, Curtis, and Michael Joseph Mann; and one great-grandchild, Suzanne Louise Halstead. Preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Alcus Mann, and by his parents, Lawrence Mann, Sr. and Sophie Mendelsohn Mann. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Isreal, past Chairman of the Industrial Engineering Department at LSU, a graduate of LSU and Purdue University, a life member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Louisiana Engineering Society, and the American Society for Engineer Education. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club, past Campus Chairman of the United Way and a member of various committees of the United Way. He was on the Board of Directors at St. James Place, and former President of St. James Place Resident Association. He was a Science Faculty Fellow of the National Science Foundation and past member of the Baton Rouge Junior Chamber of Commerce. He served one term as a member of the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B'nai Isreal.
