

Lawson Glynn Cox, MD, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the age of 95. Born in a Webster Parish lumber camp, and a graduate of Minden High School, Glynn made his way to LSU in 1939 where he earned his BS degree in 1943 before marrying his sweetheart, Maxine Hadwin (Home-Coming Queen of Lisbon High School in Claiborne Parish). He continued his medical training at LSUNO followed by an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Cox was then inducted into the Army Medical Corps in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, received ENT training at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital and furthered his military medical career in West Point, Walter Reed Army Hospital and finished his military career in Heidelberg Germany at the rank of Major.Returning to Baton Rouge in 1957, Dr. Cox worked at Stanacola Medical Center for a number of years before establishing his private office on North Blvd. He was very active in the Louisiana Medical Society. Nearly 60 years after settling in Baton Rouge, Dr. L. G. Cox died peacefully in the very house that he had moved his family into in 1957. He loved hunting, fishing, polka music and was a steadfast patriot. Preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Lena Cox and his wife, Maxine Hadwin Cox, Dr. Cox is survived by his two sons; Michael David Cox (Sharon) of Bossier City, LA and Steven Charles Cox (Robbi) of McComb, MS. Dr. Cox is also survived by four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service today, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 2pm. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
