Lena Marie Dedon, 83, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Monday December 23rd, 2024 in her home surrounded by family and covered in prayer. After fighting a long and courageous battle with dementia she was welcomed by God into the gates of heaven. Dementia may have taken parts of her memory but until the end she knew her family and friends and her sweet heart remained as pure and loving as it always was.
Lena was born to Vivian and Vallie Lemoine on August 13th, 1941, in Plaucheville, La. When she was five the family moved to Baton Rouge where she had to learn to switch from speaking French to English when she entered St. Anthony Catholic School. Lena graduated St. Anthony in 1959, and it was not long before she met the love of her life, her dear Bobby Ray at a CYO dance. After marrying September 16,1961, she traveled with him throughout his Air Force career until they settled back in Baton Rouge, then Central to raise their family and open a family business. Lena was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her and when she was not working her time was spent with her family. Gardening in her flower beds and baking the best Christmas Candy trays were some of her favorite things to do.
Lena is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, the love of her life and devoted caregiver, Robert (Bobby) Ray Dedon; sons and daughter in laws, Shane and Margaret Dedon, Jeff and Helen Dedon, and daughter and son in law, Lisa and Russell Gauthreaux; four grandsons, Brennan Michael Dedon, Taylor Mark Dedon, Austin Michael Dedon and Ben Ellis Gauthreaux; five great grandchildren, June, James and Zoe Dedon and Autumn and Marcella Dedon; sister Nancy Bailey, sister in law Diane Marbury and her husband Randy, sister in law Peggy Stott, brother in law Patrick Dedon and his wife Mary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Mary and Vallie Vincent Lemoine; mother and father-in-law Beatrice and Hubert Dedon, sister and brother-in-law Myrtle and Michael Couvillion and brother in law Johnny Bailey.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday December 31st, 11:30 AM with visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church with internment to follow at the Bowman-Dedon Cemetery in St, Francisville, La. The Rev. Michael J. Moroney will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane, Jeff, Brennan, Taylor and Austin Dedon and Ben Gauthreaux.
Lena will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Even facing a terrible illness, she still found each day, in her own words to be “Good, Great, Grand and Glorious”. We know she is resting peacefully with Jesus where there is no longer any “cold air”, but only sunshine to warm her face.
The family would like to thank three of the most amazing caregivers who love Lena and Bob as their own. Tina Gettridge, Minnie Bordelon Cosey and Deborah Smart you mean the world to our family.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations can be made in Lena’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis or your favorite charity.
