As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, Joshua 24:15. Leon Juel Rester, born October 28, 1941, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, August 2, 2024 after a brief, yet courageous, battle with cancer. Leon was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His kind and generous heart made everyone feel welcomed in his home. He retired from ExxonMobil after 38 years of service. He often remarked how his greatest pride and joy in life was spending time with his family. Next to spending time with his family, he found peace and happiness over the past 50 years simply being on his tractor and helping his wife turn their home into the sanctuary it is today. It was a haven for everyone lucky enough to know and love him.
Leon was a devout Catholic and a man of great faith. God was the center of his life and made God the center of the lives of his children as well. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Rester of Zachary; daughters, Kristine Rester of Prairieville; Kimberly Rester and fiancé Scott Brocato of Greenwell Springs; Kassie Rester and significant other Kenny Young of Zachary; Kathy McGehee and husband Rusty of Zachary; a son, Jacob Rester and wife, Sonia of Baton Rouge and son-in-law Lance Herrin of Zachary. He was a most beloved PawPaw and is also survived by his grandchildren Ashley Williams, Joshua Kirby, Brittany Vince and husband Chris; Kayli Wall and husband Josh; Karlyn Sumner and husband Scott, Schyler Fontenot, Chandler Young and wife Rebecca, Morgyn Young, Londyn McGehee and Drew McGehee and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Juel and Elva Rester, sister Caroline Fritchie, brothers Billy Rester and Glen Rester and a most beloved daughter, Karin Herrin.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on August 10, 2024. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am followed by a visitation from 10:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Pallbearers will be Joshua Kirby, Chandler Young, Schyler Fontenot, Caleb Williams, Drew McGehee and Rusty McGehee. Honorary pallbearers are Lance Herrin and Kenny Young. Leon will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A reception, following the completion of services, will be held in Leon’s honor at 7085 Fleur De Lis, Zachary, LA.
