Leon “Ricky” Veals, was born on January 31, 1960 to parents Beannie Veals and Leon Turner, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a saw filer at Landry’s Saw Filing, a direct care staff member at the Harmony Center, Inc., and a delivery driver for Louisiana Office Supply prior to his retirement. Leon was a proud Capitol High Lion, Class of ’78, and an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the LSU Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs. In 1988, Leon began attending the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research (IDMR) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 32 years Bertha Veals, his daughters Tonya Veals-Carter, Alesha Veals, and Brandi Veals all of Baton Rouge, La, his son Leon Veals (Janay) of Central, La, his step-son Sedgwyn Thigpen of Baton Rouge, La, goddaughter Reshounda Spland, five sisters Joyce T. Keller, Edith T. Williams, Virginia L. Martin, Lois M. McElroy, Carolyn A. Turner, six grandchildren La’Nyia, Brieanna, Leon III, Kaleigh, and Paityn, three step-grandchildren Ian, Ilana, Ivan, one great grandchild Trenton, mother-in-law Ella Ross, his favorite cousin-in-law Angeline Neal, great friend and neighbor Ralph Griffin, five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Beannie Veals-Sanders, father Leon Turner, brother George Hollins, grandfather Bennie Veals, Sr., grandmother Daisy Veals, and his paternal grandparents.
