She was born in Long Bridge on May 11, 1916, and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 26, 2010. Preceded in death by her husband, Russell T. Shirley; parents, Dominic and Florence Fontane; sisters, Hazel Ducote, Lula Hirschey, Florence Taylor, Sylvia Coincon and Freddie Keyes; brothers, Denis, Dale and Hewitt Fontaine; and grandchild, David Gebhart. Survived by her children, R. Terry Shirley, Brenda Gebhart, Sharon Chevalier and Debra Solomon; grandchildren, Stephanie and Brian Shirley, Lauri Gebhart, Wendy G Cefalu, Kristen G Burns, Chance and Danielle Chevalier, Russell, Schylur, Cheyenne, Riley, Summer and Travis Solomon. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Tate and Kinsey Gebhart and Madison and Tyler Cefalu. Visitation at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Tom Ranzino, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of choice.
