
An educator of more than 50 years and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Lilburne "Lu Lu" Juliette Anderson Thompson died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, in her home. She was 89, born Sept. 18, 1919. She graduated from Southern University with a degree in home economics in 1940 and received a master's degree in education from LSU in 1971. She also attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb., in 1964, and Southwestern Adventist College (now Southwestern Adventist University) in 1976. She began her teaching career in Avoyelles Parish in Louisiana in 1940 and taught home economics at Bunkie High School for six years. She served as principal/teacher at Berean Seventh-day Adventist School from 1956 to 1980. After retiring from Berean, she established the Martin Luther King Jr. Christian Academy, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade nonprofit religious school in 1980 and served as principal until she retired for the last time in 2005. She was a faithful member of the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church for 73 years. There will be a memorial service at The Oasis Christian Church, 4524 E. Brookstown Drive, on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. There will a private interment at Port Hudson National Cemetery on Monday morning, June 1. She is survived by a sister, Phrozine McCoy and her husband, Lorenzo McCoy, of San Diego; two sons, Helvius L. Thompson Jr., pastor, and his wife, Janice, of Dallas, and Robert R. Thompson Sr. and his wife, MiJa, of Baton Rouge; and daughter, Lili A. Lusk and her husband, Michael, of Stockton, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Lola A. Thompson, of Cleburne, Texas; nine grandchildren, Robert R. Thompson Jr. and his wife, Mercedes, and Brandon C. Thompson, all of Cleburne, Randolph Thompson, Russell Thompson and his wife, Elisa, and Helvius L Thompson III, all of Dallas, Abel L Thompson and Innai S. Thompson, both of Baton Rouge, Chris Dunmore, of Dayton, Ohio, and Michael Lusk II, of Houston; seven great-grandchildren, Keegan, Noah and Danté, all of Cleburne, Kenneth and Kaelyn, and Rhian and Elise, all of Dallas; and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Lilly and Henry Anderson; and brothers, Dr. Dupuy H. Anderson, Robert E. Anderson and Clifton Anderson.
