
December 28, 1922-September 2, 2015. Lillian Newton Landrum passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2015 at the age of 92 in Baton Rouge. She was born in Poplarville, MS on December 28, 1922 to Pearl Henderson Newton and Robert Melvin Newton. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1943, she taught in the Wiggins, MS public school. She moved to Baton Rouge as a field secretary for the Delta Gamma sorority where she founded the Gamma Zeta chapter of Delta Gamma at LSU. It was also at this time that she met her future husband, Thomas Collum Landrum. They were married in 1948. Lillian and her husband were charter members of the Broadmoor Methodist Church where she remained very active until her later years. She was also active in supporting Delta Gamma and received both the Cable and Loyalty awards for her lifetime of work. Delta Gamma established a scholarship in her name. She supported LSU where she endowed scholarships and contributed to the LSU Alumni Fund. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Collum Landrum, Sr., her parents, Pearl Henderson Newton and Robert Melvin Newton and brothers, Robert S. Newton (and his wife, Annie Fay Newton), JB Newton (and his wife, Ruth Newton) and Paul M. Newton. She is survived by her two children, Mary Pearl Landrum Squires (and her husband, Robert Glendon Squires) and Thomas Collum Landrum, Jr. (and his wife, Kay Berry Landrum), her two grandchildren, Laura Squires Meza (and her husband, Darryl Dan Meza) and Eric Glendon Squires (and his wife, Veronica Cordero Squires) and four great-grandchildren, Thomas James Meza, Madison Rose Meza, Andrew Glendon Meza and Aubrey Michelle Squires. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Ken Carroll are planned for 2:30 PM on Saturday September 5, 2015 at Broadmoor Methodist Church on in Baton Rouge. Visitation will precede the service from 1:30-2:30 PM. The family is grateful for the love and support from friends and the care team at St. James Place.
