

Lillie Elise Bond Goree, 91, was received in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2017 at Ocean Springs Hospital in Ocean Springs, MS. Elise Goree was born December 8, 1925 to Charles F. and Iris Bond in Denham Springs, LA where she grew up and graduated from high school. She married John W. Goree on December 8, 1948 and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge where they together were faithful members of Laurel Lea Baptist Church. The past several years, she has lived in Ocean Springs, MS with her daughter.
A devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great grandmother, Elise's heart was always fixed toward her faith in God and her family. She was the consummate homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. In her home, there was always enough love and food for anyone who chose to drop by. She was well known for many of her special dishes and desserts including fried cornbread and Congo squares. Elise learned to hunt, fish, and play softball at an early age. She was an outstanding athlete, an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending sporting events and watching them on television. She was quite a gardener, enjoying days and seasons growing vegetables and flowers.
She and her husband were charter members of Laurel Lea Baptist Church in Baton Rouge where she sang in the choir and served as church secretary for many years. She raised her children with the knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith. She was a member of Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs, MS.
Elise was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years. She was also preceded by two of her sons, Steve Goree and Tommy Goree. She is survived by her daughter, Susan and her husband Joe Lasserre, son Roger Goree and his wife Krys, and two daughters-in-law, Dineen Goree and Debe Goree. This Proverbial woman was known by her grandchildren as "MeMaw". She is survived by six grandchildren, Ashley Thomas, Karee Huggins (Mike), Lacy Goree, Trent Goree (Rachael), Jordan Steib (Martin), and West Rivet (Diane); seven great- grandchildren, Morgan Corban (Matt), Addison Thomas, Emma Goree, Riggs Huggins, Steven Goree, Mia Rivet, and Caden Rivet; and one great grandchild, Brinley Kate Corban. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. celebrating Elise's life. Pallbearers will be Mike Goree, Charles Felder, Trent Goree, Joe Lasserre, Martin Steib, Mike Huggins and West Rivet.
The family would like to thank her special friends at The Gardens Assisted Living Center who loved her and celebrated life with her daily, Milton Seymour, Ana McKitrick, Debbie Galle, Beryl Davis and other close friends who shared in her life's journey.
