Linda Lue Kelly, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on September 20, 1939, Linda was a hard-working, brave, adventurous, generous, and honest woman who touched the lives of many.
Linda's academic achievements were impressive, having received her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa in 1982, a Master of Social Work at LSU in 1974, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at LSU. Her career was extensive and impactful, working as a therapist in private practice from 1976 to 2024. She also served as a professor at the University of Texas-Pan American, the University of Central Florida, LSU, and retired from her career as a full time Professor of Social Work at Southeastern University. Additionally, she was a dedicated family counselor.
Linda is survived by her husband, Patrick H. Ricard, and her son, J. Chandler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John B. and Ruby Kelly, and her siblings, John W. and Betty Kelly, Robert Kelly, Sue and Dean Coppernoll, and Nancy and Melvin Vuic.
Linda was known for her love of travel, theater, and gardening. She was a regular attendee of the Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville, KY (she only missed 1 festival out of 15 years because she made a trip to Italy). She had a passion for gardening and loved flowers, particularly zinnias and marigolds. Reading brought her joy, and she was rarely seen without her Kindle. She was a big lover dogs, especially her own, Mingus and Magnolia - no matter what she said, she loved those two more than her husband, Patrick, which was okay!
Linda was an extraordinary therapist, leaving a profound legacy through her work. Her clients often regarded her as the most powerful influence in their lives, crediting her with helping them find strength and wisdom. She was a natural social worker, a healer, and a force of nature, always present, truthful, and soulful.
Linda Lue Kelly will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of compassion and insight will continue to inspire those who knew her.
