

Retired from the LA Highway Safety Commission, American National Red Cross and Army Reserves; he died on July 21, 2023 in Baton Rouge at the age of 89. Born in Logansport, LA and graduated from Logansport High School in 1952 and Northwestern State University in 1956. He did post graduate work at LSU and graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces and Infantry Commanders Leadership School, Ft Benning, GA. He also graduated from Artillery, Transportation, Engineer and Infantry military schools. Military Assignments included Commander ll90th Transportation Support Bde, Baton Rouge, Chief of Staff 2nd Maneuver Command, Jackson, MS, Asson Chief of Staff-Personnel 377th Theatre Support Command, New Orleans.On Active duty he served as an Artillery Battery Commander and Commander of the Yakima Firing Center in Yakima, Washington. He also served as Logistics Commander during the active exercise Phase of BRIGHT ST AR in Egypt in 1985. After retirement from Red Cross, Highway Safety and the Army Reserves; he worked with FEMA a number of years with assignments in Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and several locations in the U.S. In 1997; he returned to Highway Safety and worked statewide for several years promoting safe driving practices with the public. He served two terms on the Ft Polk Army Retiree Council and is currently an Honorary member, the EBR Alcoholic Beverage Control BD and is past president of Chapter 3 of the Reserve Officers Asson. He was a lifetime member of Military Order of World Wars, Reserve Officers Asson and Military Officers of America as well as a member of St Louis King of France Catholic Church Ushers Society, and United Commercial Travelers.At Northwestern State he was known as "Country" and made the All Gulf States Conference track team in the mile run. He also ran the two mile at NSU. He held a number of records in the mile run while at NSU and served as Captain in 1956. His most memorable military assignment was in l970 when he was chosen to serve as General Omar Bradley's personal escort when General Bradley was honored as Veteran of the year in Birmingham, Alabama. Survived by his loving and loyal wife Susi of 57 years, and 10 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Bertie and Wade Claybrook, three sisters Marie Town, Wanza Odom and Mozelle Pickard and brothers Huey and James Claybrook. A private burial ceremony will be held at the Louisiana National Cemetery at a later date. Linden request that in lieu of flowers, each person who knew him do a good deed for someone in need and to remember him as one who cared for his fellow man.
