
Lionel Mitchell Roché was called to his eternal home on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. He was a resident of Prairieville and a native of Gretna. Lionel was born on April 19, 1931, the sixth of seven children from the union of the late Arthur Roché Jr. and Leona Ganier. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ferdinand Roché, Rena Roché Duplessis, Vera Roché Olinde and Emile Roché. He is survived by a sister, Lula Roché Ganier. Lionel attended Xavier University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He retired from Johns Manville in 1985 and continued to work as a real estate agent for Latter&Blum until his health began to fail some 10 years later. Survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Louise Domingue Roché; four sons and their families, Lionel Eric Roche and wife Maria Haydel, Kevin Michael Roché and wife Brenda Darensbourg, Byron Keith Roché and Arthur Troy Roché and wife Angela Trevigne; five granddaughters, Keriayn Leary and husband Kenneth Leary Jr., Candice, Brandi, Angelle and Ashley Roché; and four great-granddaughters, Kaylin Leary, Cheri Roché, Madeleine Roché-Boucree and Kristen Leary. Lionel enjoyed life. He loved his family and took pride in their accomplishments. He was a loving, caring and supportive husband and father. He loved nothing more than spoiling his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. He will be missed by all. A Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15028 La. 73, Prairieville, on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. Visitation at the church will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment in Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine.
