

Lon Thomas Hunter, a life-long resident of Baton Rouge who touched countless lives, passed into eternity peacefully on Friday Sept 28, 2012. Lon succumbed to his battle with lung cancer Friday evening surrounded by his loving wife, Maria, and close friends. He joins his brother, Walter Hugh Hunter, Jr. and parents Hazel Estelle Onellion and Walter Hugh Hunter, Sr. A Westdale Middle School and Baton Rouge High School graduate, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and attended LSU. There was no more likeable person with a 24K heart of gold who cared deeply for his friends and community. He was a 20-year Spanish Town Mardi Gras board member and is credited with originating the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball. In his 61 years he lived every moment to the fullest. His exploits will be long remembered for the "joie de vivre" that was Lon. Safe journey old friend, you will be missed. Visitation will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at Greenoaks Funeral Home between 5-8PM and continuing on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 8AM until time of services at 10AM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lon Hunter's name to either the Hospice Of Baton Rouge “Butterfly Wing” or to the Baton Rouge Cancer Services Organization.
