

""He will not forget your work and the love you have shown." Hebrews 6:10. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lorraine Gainey Simmons, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016. She was 93, born in Baker, LA. She graduated from Baker High School as valedictorian and attended LSU. She was a school teacher for several years while married to David Thomas Simmons. After 64 years of marriage, the love of her life passed. She was an amazing woman who raised six children. A devout Catholic, she focused on loving and caring for her family. She volunteered for many of her children's scouting and sports activities. After her husband retired, they moved to the town of Belle River, where they resided for several years. In 1994, they returned to Baton Rouge, where they became parishioners of St. George Catholic Church. She is survived by six children: David Simmons, Jr. and wife Judy Payne Simmons, Elizabeth Simmons Tarleton, Patricia Simmons Gaunt and husband Stephen, Michael Simmons, Jeffrey Simmons, and Ric Simmons and wife Andrea LeCocq Simmons; four grandchildren: Stacy Simmons Nugent and husband Ramey, Chad David Simmons, David Michael Tarleton and Sean David Simmons; great-granddaughter, Pacian Olivia Nugent; and sister Edith Gainey Braud, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Bethel and Elizabeth Gainey, brother, Edward "Bud" Gainey, and sister, Pearl Choate. Visitation is at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Sunday, November 20, 5 PM to 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. George Catholic Church on Monday, November 21, at 10 AM. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery following the mass. Pallbearers will be David Simmons, Jr., Chad Simmons, Jeffrey Simmons, Michael Simmons, Ric Simmons, Sean Simmons, and David Tarleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Hospice of Baton Rouge, or Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Home.
