
A retired businessman, he passed away at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009. A native of New Orleans, he had lived in Baton Rouge since 1940, and considered this home. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army ordinance corps in Aberdeen, Md., and in the Philippines. Louis Margot will be remembered as a longtime, well-respected member of the Baton Rouge business community. He and his wife owned and operated Margot Inc. and Custom Rebuilding and Warehousing Inc. for 52 years. The business first opened on Railroad Avenue in 1940. It was later moved to Florida Boulevard and finally to the corner of Airline Highway and South Choctaw Drive. The Margots built the business into the largest front-end alignment complex in Louisiana. He was acknowledged by the courts as an expert on automotive brakes and springs and testified as an expert witness on several occasions. Both he and his wife were very active in the business and regarded their employees as extended family. He loved to travel, especially in Hawaii. The Margots retired in 1992 and pursued their love of travel. Louis was preceded in death by his beloved sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Ollie Ruth Margot. Also preceded in death by his father and mother, Louis F. and Laura Margot; six sisters, Evelyn, Myrtle, Laura May, Inez, Gloria and Marion; and two brothers, Howard and Omer. He is survived by his niece, Carol Thibodaux, and various other nieces and nephews. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Cemetery.
