Louis C. Rogge, Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed to his heavenly reward on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the age of 93. Louis was the fourth son born to Edward S. and Louise (Landry) Rogge and was a life-long resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Upon graduating from Catholic High in 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Poey, who was also serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were soon married in Tokyo, the first of three wedding ceremonies (a story they never tired of telling) and celebrated 72 years of marriage in July. Their love and commitment to one another remained steadfast and inspiring to those around them, a tremendous example of what a marriage based on love, faith and commitment could be. Louis was devoted to his faith, family and friends. He always had a smile on his face, and he never met a stranger. He worked as a machinist for the LSU College of Chemistry and Physics for 33 years and was an avid LSU football fan. He & Barbara enjoyed 25 years of season tickets and tailgating and showing their support with their car horn that played the LSU fight song (happy tooter!) He was a very giving man, serving at St. Gerard and St. George Catholic churches for years as an usher, and always at the church fairs. An active member of the Knights of Columbus, Louis achieved the rank of 4th degree Knight. He also loved camping, fishing at False River, and barbecuing or boiling crawfish in the backyard with family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara and their children, Pamela Rogge, Louis C. Rogge, Jr. (Patty), Cindy Dupuy (Bryan), and Roxanne Maddie (Scott). Louis was an adoring Paw-Paw to his grandchildren, Ryan Rogge (Rebecca), Jesse Bjorndahl (Nicole), Landon Rogge (Jane), Hannah Wayts (Kevin), Mason Maddie, and Kennan Rogge (Miriam), as well as great-grandchildren, Grayson & Hope Rogge, Emmett, Jane & Violet Bjorndahl, Josiah Rogge, Ryker & Addie Wayts, and Alexandra & Theodora Rogge; his youngest brother, Roy; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Kay; his sister, Evelyn Louise; his brothers, Eddie, Norman and Leo; sister-in-law, Evelyn, Jeannette and Brenda; and son-in-law, Ted Barkhoefer. A celebration of Louis’ life will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. George Catholic Church with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ryan Rogge, Jesse Bjorndahl, Landon Rogge, Mason Maddie, Kennan Rogge and Adam Rogge. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his memory. Special thanks to all the amazing caregivers and staff who cared for Louis at the Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Jackson, Louisiana, for the past ten years.
