
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A native of New Orleans and a resident of Baton Rouge for 44 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Merlyn Hebert Stratmann; four children, Eric Christian Stratmann and wife Nancy, of Baton Rouge, Kurt Andrew Stratmann and wife Robin, of Houston, Lisa Stratmann Ellis and husband Jim, of Cincinnati, and Donald Louis Stratmann and wife Anita, of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, Mark Stratmann, Kate Herty, Sarah Smyth, Eric Ellis, Amy Ellis, Andrew Stratmann, Sally Stratmann, Olivia Stratmann and Jeremy Stratmann; and two great-grandchildren. Charles Herty and Amelia Herty. Preceded in death by his parents, Elsa von Gohren and Louis Christian Stratmann Jr. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Merchant Marines for two years after which he enjoyed a 40 year career in the green coffee business in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. As a convert to the Catholic faith, he embraced his religion in every area of his life. He was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a faithful, dedicated member of the Perpetual Adoration group. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Monday, Sept. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Tuesday, Sept 28, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Andrew Merrick. Interment in Resthaven Gardens Of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
