
She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Baton Rouge Business College, a 25-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department and for many years an election poll commissioner and absentee ballot counter. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Louisiana Peace Officers Association and the Municipal Police Officers Association of Louisiana. She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Kenilworth Civic Association and the grandparents groups of St. Aloysius School, Catholic High School and St. Joseph's Academy. She passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at age 84. Survived by her two sons, James and Pat Bergeron and his wife, Madeleine; four grandchildren, Claire, Andrew, Michael and Caroline; two brothers, Charles "Bubba" and N.E. "Pete" Heine, all of the Baton Rouge area; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dempsey; and her parents, the Rev. Charles A. and Edna Cook Heine. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Andrew and Michael Bergeron; her brother, Pete Heine; her nephews, Chuck and Don "Scooter" Heine; and her niece's husband, Glen Overfield. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Monday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. until chapel service at 11 a.m. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
