Margaret Elizabeth Middleton Broussard, 83 of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 31, 1940 in Vicksburg, MS and moved to Louisiana with her family when she was 6 years old.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David H. Broussard, Sr., her parents, Charles F. Middleton, Sr. and Eleanor Marshall Middleton, her brother, Charles F. Middleton, Jr., her sister Nadine Middleton O’Neal and her son-in-law, Edward G. “Ned” Randolph, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah Broussard Randolph of Alexandria, LA; Meghann Broussard Wilson and her husband Loyd Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA; and David H. Broussard, Jr. and his wife, LeAnne Melder Broussard of Alexandria, LA.
She was affectionately known as MeMe to her seven grandchildren, Matthew Alexander Dunn and his wife, Mikayla Boyenga Dunn of Tampa, FL; Madeline Celeste Blanchard of Baton Rouge, LA; Jeremy True “J.T.” Cearley of Ball, LA; Lillian Elizabeth Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA; and Beau Thomas Broussard, Briggs David Broussard and Baylor Charles Broussard of Alexandria, LA.
She is survived by three sisters, Eleanor Middleton Anderson of DeRidder, LA; Bobbie Middleton Rube and her husband Ronald Rube of Baton Rouge, LA; Judy Middleton Simms and her husband Michael Simms of Baton Rouge, LA; and one brother, Edward Livingston Middleton and his wife Melissa Basso Middleton of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Collins Middleton of Baton Rouge, LA; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Broussard Viator and her husband, Daniel Viator of Youngsville, LA. She was Aunt Margaret to her many nieces and nephews.
A dedicated community leader and volunteer, she served as Board President for the American Red Cross of Baton Rouge. She chaired the Mad Hatter’s Luncheon for the Baton Rouge Symphony League in the 1970’s and served as President of the Baton Rouge Jaycee Jaynes, followed by State President of the Jaycee Jaynes, a civic group that was later folded into the Jaycees.
Margaret was a woman of deep faith. She was an active member of St. George Catholic Church where she worked on numerous committees in service of the parish.
As a gifted writer, she enjoyed writing articles for various local publications and poems for family and friends to mark special occasions. She loved cooking and baking much to the delight of family and friends who enjoyed her delicious seafood gumbo, corn and crab bisque, and wonderful desserts.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of this beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70809, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Dunn, Beau Broussard, Briggs Broussard, Baylor Broussard, J.T. Cearley, Edward Middleton, Michael Simms, Daniel Viator, and Ronald Rube.
