A retired East Baton Rouge teacher, Margaret Barman Gentry died on May 28, 2023, at the age of 86 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. She was born to Jacob C. and Martha T. Barman on April 7, 1937, in Roanoke, LA, Jeff Davis Parish. She graduated from La Grange High School and McNeese State College in Lake Charles where she received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology in 1960. While at McNeese, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. As a junior she was listed in Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities. As a senior, she was ROTC's Little Colonel. Upon graduation from McNeese, she worked in the field of Medical Technology for 10 years. Following the arrival of her second child, she retired from the Medical Technology field. In 1978 she earned a second Bachelor of Science in Science Education from Southeastern University and began her teaching career, retiring after 20 years from Central Middle School in 1998. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star #23, and Baton Rouge Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen T. Gentry and her sister Isabel A. Moore. She is survived by a son, Glen T. Gentry, Jr. and his wife Donna of Clinton, LA, a daughter Carol M. Hernandez and husband Cristian of Lake Charles, LA, four grandchildren, Cameron Gentry and wife Jade, twins Grace and Martha Bergeron, and Thomas Bergeron and one great-grandson, Colt T. Gentry. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home from 10 am to noon followed by funeral services on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Interment will be at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery on Joor Road in Central. Pallbearers will be Cameron Gentry, Thomas Bergeron, Tyler Pederson, James Deloach Jr., Thomas Helms and Glen T. Gentry, Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
