
Margaret Garvin O'Meara died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at her home. She was 87. Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and true friend. A native of Blackfoot, Idaho, she spent most of her life in the Detroit area and was a 42-year resident of Baton Rouge. She is survived by five daughters, a son, and daughter-in-law: Sharon Tipton (Karl), Maureen Marsolan (Norman), Ellen Marino (Johnny), Peggy Arnold (Kirk), Lucy Austin, John O'Meara (Sheryl), and Cynthia M. O'Meara; 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth Jacobs (Jim), Paul (Betsy), Michael, and Colleen Marsolan, Katherine Hoffman (Keith), Stephanie Yamkovenko (Bogdan), Kevin Marino (fiancée Amber McGarry), Sarah Bergeron (Brent), Robert O'Meara, Tommy, Chris, Joey, and David Arnold, and Sean Austin: three great-grandchildren, Grady and Reece Hoffman and Baby Marsolan. She is also survived by her sister, Jane Arbour. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert John O'Meara; son, Michael John O'Meara; and parents, John Francis and Mary Gertrude Kinney Garvin. She received a bachelor of science degree from Marygrove University, in Detroit. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she taught CCD and was involved in other church ministries. Recently, she was a resident of St. James Place and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Margaret was actively involved with Girl Scouts, Komen Race for the Cure, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Louisiana Arts and Artists Guild. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. Visiting resumes at St. Aloysius Church, 2025 Stuart Ave., on Wednesday, Aug. 10, from noon until the religious service at 1 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
