

Pie was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She was born March 2, 1924 of the union of Oliver G. Richard, Sr. and Rosa Hebert Richard. She passed away in the early morning hours of February4th, at St. James Place. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Doris Richard Chambers, Ruby Richard Broussard and her brothers, Charles Richard, Sr., and Oliver G. Richard, Jr. She was married to Paul W. Pendley for 27 years and of that union were born her children, all of whom survive her. Patrick W. Pendley (Helen) Plaquemine, Michael D. Pendley (Janine), Paulette Pendley, and Suzanne Pendley Elmer (Larry) all of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her 6 grandchildren, Keith Griffith of Houston, TX, Paul E. Pendley of Prairieville, Pamela Pendley Baudin of Port Allen, Shannon Griffith Wales of Jacksonville, NC, Stephanie Elmer Robin of Baton Rouge, Sarah Rose Smith Ortego of Avery Island, and step grandson, Charles E. Shull of Seattle WA. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren. Pie was a graduate of St. Charles Academy in Lake Charles and LSU. She retired from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries having served as Executive Secretary to the Director for several decades. During her tenure with the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries she authored a cooking column “Pie’s Potpourri” in the official magazine “Louisiana Conservationist.” Her cooking recipes for Louisiana’s bountiful crops, wildlife and seafood found distribution throughout Louisiana and beyond its borders. After her retirement, the department compiled over 450 of her recipes in “The Official Louisiana Seafood & Wild Game Cookbook”. The cookbook was an instant success and quickly sold out the initial 20,000 printed copies. Prior to her time with Wildlife & Fisheries, she served on the staff of Governor John McKeithen for 8 years. Pie loved to travel and traveled the world. She was also an avid seamstress who made beautiful quilts in her retirement years. As a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church she served as a member of the Prayer Line Committee, Bereavement Committee and an adorer in the Adoration Chapel. She was a devoted fan of LSU Baseball for many years and looked forward to the College World Series in Omaha. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm with a rosary at 6:00 pm, on Tuesday February 7th. A Memorial Mass will be held on February 8th, at 10:30 am, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church conducted by Father Cleo Milano, with visitation from 8:30am to 10:30 am (Mass). Pallbearers will be Oliver G. Richard, III, Paul E. Pendley, Patrick W. Pendley, Stan Baudin, Brett Ortego, and Dr. John Frusha. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons. The family would like to acknowledge with gratefulness the assistance of her caretakers, Kourtney Davenport and Catherine Woolfolk, and St. James Place aides Carmen, Liz, Diamond, Bliss, and Ashley.
