Marie Bullion

Her cheerful smile and gentle face "¦ No one can fill her vacant place. Marie, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at age 96. "Miss Marie," as she was endearingly known by others, was born in Gramercy on June 28, 1913. She was a homemaker and a person always on the go who enjoyed every moment in life, especially cooking for and entertaining others. She was fortunate to have grown up in a large, close-knit family and as the eldest she cared for her brothers and sisters throughout her life. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and one of the school's original students when it opened in 1927. As past president of the Theta Kappa Phi fraternity Mother's Club, she assisted many of "her boys." As an early downtown resident, she always associated herself with St. Joseph Parish. Marie was truly a remarkable person and loving mom who touched many lives. That cheerful smile and gentle face will remain in the minds of everyone who knew her. Visiting at St. Joseph Cathedral on Friday, Aug. 28, from 8 a.m. until Mass at 10 a.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by her son, Ronnie Bullion; brother, Leonard Poche Sr. and his wife, Mary Alice; sister, Agnes Poche; sister-in-law, Pearl Poche; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded In death by her husband, O.A. Bullion; parents, Leonce Paul Poche Sr. and Marla Ella Genre Poche; stepmother, Gertrude Falcon Poche; brothers, Leonce P. "Bill" Poche Jr. and Elmore "Tot" Poche; and sisters, Jeannette "Paps" Curtis and Lucille "Sis" McAllister. Pallbearers will be John Harelson, Glen Poche. Lester Poche, Daniel McAllister, Larry Bullion Jr. and Kenny Morrow. Honorary pallbearers are Carol Harelson, Terry Gahn, Leo Higginbotham, Ridley Gros, Peter Dazzio and Jack Crow. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nicholas Campo, Dr. Leon Kraft, Dr. Kevin Babin, and also Lena Evans who saw to her care.
