Marie Zulma Reine Chaney, 94, a resident of Baton Rouge, and previous resident of Gonzales, passed away at Carpenter House surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 12, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Marie was a member of the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She was a devoted mother, caring wife, and indulgent grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid gardener who loved to tend to her flowers and her vegetable garden. Where ever she went people loved her, the stories she told, the kindness she showed, and the way she lit up a room with her smile and charm. Marie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Sharkey Vance Chaney, a daughter, Deirdre Lynne Chaney Yanes, a son, Vance "Rennie" Chaney and his wife, Lori; three grandchildren: Tania Surane and her husband, John, of Chicago; Christina Yanes Winters, and her husband, Shannon, of Orlando, and Carlos Antonio Yanes and his wife, Carolina of the Republic of Panama; 5 great grandchildren: Sharkey Yanes, Jake Surane, Julia Surane, Carlos Andres Yanes and Elena Marie Yanes. Marie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
