
Blessed with a passion for music, Marie transformed her musical gifts into an enduring joy for all who knew and shared her love. She was the song in the hearts of her husband, son, parents, siblings, family and friends. She died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Survived by her husband, Kevin Meeks; son, Matthew Walker; and parents Dr. Charles and Claire Schexnayder. She was the joy of her husband's life; he adored her. Additional survivors include siblings and their spouses, Jacki and Brian Schneider and Dr. Michael and Charlene Schexnayder. She is also survived by her stepson, Joshua Meeks; and nephews, Charles Schexnayder, Christopher Macmurdo and Ross Macmurdo; and niece, Laura Schexnayder. Marie was born on June 5, 1958, in Houma. She was a 1976 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge and received a bachelor's degree in education from LSU. She was a teacher in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system for 20 years. She impacted the lives of many students and teachers who loved her as much as she loved them. She was filled with love and generosity and inspired all whom she met. Mrs. Meeks performed in many musical, theatrical productions in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. She was a regular performer at Aubin Lane Dinner Theater and performed in the New Orleans Opera Theater. Her son, Matthew, embodies her passion and musical talents. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, April 11, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Joseph Cathedral on Saturday from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park.
